Feb 4, 2008 Deadline for voter registration for primary election (30 days before primary election).
Feb. 25, 2008 Certificate to fill vacancy on a ballot caused by the death of candidate whose name is on the primary ballot in more than one county must be filed by 4pm (10 days before primary election).
March 1, 2008 Applications by mail for absentee ballots for the primary election must be received by the board of elections by noon (three days before the primary election.
March 3, 2008 Nominating petitions of independent candidates other than president or vice president, for offices for which a primary election may be held must be filed by 4:00pm (1 day before primary election).
Amendments to observer appointments must be filed by 4:00pm (1 day before primary election).
Absentee ballots may be requested and voted in person at boards of elections until the close of regular business hours (1 day before primary election).
Militia on active duty may file applications in person for absentee ballots by 4pm (day before primary election).
March 4, 2008 Primary Election Day- polls are open from 6:30am until 7:30pm.
Absentee ballots, other than those of of overseas and armed services voters, must be received by boards of elections by 7:30pm.
Voter or voter's minor child hospitalized because of medical emergency, voter may apply for absentee ballot until 3:00pm.
March 24, 2008 Out-of-country civilian absentee ballots must be postmarked or signed on or before the close of polls on March 4 and must be received by boards of elections by this date to be counted (20 days after primary election).
Out-of-country armed service absentee ballots must be signed on or before close of polls on March 4 and must be received by boards of elections by this date to be counted (20 days after primary election).
May 22, 2008 Local questions and issues for Aug. 5 special elections must be certified to boards of elections by 4:00pm (75 days before special election).
July 7, 2008 Deadline for voter registration for the August 5 special election (30 days before special election).
Last day for local option petitioners to send street listings to the Division of Liquor Control (45 days before Aug. 21 deadline for filing petitions).
Aug. 2, 2008 Applications by mail for absentee ballots for the August 5 special election must be received by noon (3 days before special election).
Aug. 5, 2008 Special elections may be held.
Aug. 21, 2008 Nominating petitions of candidates in nonpartisan races must be filed by 4pm (75 days before general election).
Nominating petitions of joint independent candidates for president/vice president must be filed by 4:00pm (75 days before general election).
Local questions and issues for the general election, including local liquor option petitions, must be certified to or filed with the boards of elections by 4:00pm (75 days before general election). 
Sep. 3, 2008 Write-in candidates must file declarations of intent by 4:00pm (62 days before general election).
Oct. 6, 2008 Deadline for voter registration for general election (30 days before general election).

Nov. 4, 2008 General Election Day - polls are open from 6:30am to 7:30pm. Absentee ballots, other than those of out-of-country voters, must be received by the boards of elections by 7:30pm.

Nov.14, 2008 Out-of-country civilian absentee ballots must be postmarked or signed before the close of polls on Nov. 4 and must be received by boards of elections by this date to be counted (10 days after general election).
